RITES OF PASSAGE
"This is something that I've been concerned about for some time: In our modern day culture, there appears to be a distinct lack of ways in which to mark Rites of Passage. There comes, at certain points on the journey through life, a threshold, accompanied by an instinctual feeling that this should be remembered or celebrated in some way, but which often remains unacknowledged within the Western World. Below are some of the events, that I consider to be Rites of Passage: birth onset of menses breaking of the voice wedding/handfasting motherhood/fatherhood/parenthood menopause elderhood grandparenthood becoming spirit/death How about giving a boy, something like, a blue necklace, when his voice breaks? As blue resonates with the thoat chakra. There are bound to be other milestones on the journey. Perhaps on a more personal level and which presage a new phase in someone’s life. Experiences that you may feel are just as important, to you, your family or friends, and should also be recognized”. |
