Here's my Artist Statement from 8 years ago...I've just rediscovered it!
Pleased to see that it's still relevant to my Artwork today... CONTEMPORARY ARTWORK Ancient Theme Artist, Maddy Moon Norris, seeks to convey, through her artwork, the sense of a time when it was the norm to honour and celebrate, not only, the Seasons, Nature and Mother Earth, but also, Rites of Passage and Spirit of Place. Circular, spiral and labyrinthine images have long beguiled her, they permeate her thoughts, dreams and memories; suggesting metaphorical links between past and present, physical and spiritual. To her, these profound symbols are primal and archetypal, they inform much of her work. ''Although my artwork is contemporary, there is a deep sense of connecting to the far distant past and the ancient wisdom of the ancestors, which I reinterpret and recreate in ways that relate to us today. This may involve some research, though the final piece is intuitive.'' So, inevitably, there is a touch of the shaman within her work, which hints at threshold, journey and ritual. Thus, lending it a certain primal, archetypal quality. She allows her intuition to lead...and she follows.
